Growing up in a small residential town on the Frisian peninsula, I developed an early interest in the regional history and cultural identity of the area. To examine these subjects through a more analytical lens, I moved to Southern Germany for my studies—a transition that was instrumental in fostering a broad, comparative academic perspective.
I earned my doctorate in Cultural Studies from the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen. My academic trajectory was further defined by international scholarship, including a tenure as a Fulbright Scholar at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and extensive archival research at the British Library in London and in the Bibliothèque Nationale in Paris. Supported by competitive research grants, these investigations resulted in a prize-winning dissertation that contributed to the discourse in several fields of research and teaching.
Following my doctoral studies, I served as an assistant professor, where I discovered an affinity for academic instruction and the dissemination of knowledge. However, I chose to pivot away from traditional institutional roles in education and museology, seeking instead a professional environment that offered greater scope for multifaceted engagement.
After navigating a significant health-related hiatus demanding personal resilience, I transitioned into a role as a move consultant and content strategist within the international move logistics sector. In this capacity, I synthesize my global mindset with strategic business development, managing cross-cultural communication with a diverse international clientele. A primary focus of my work is the editorial development of the company’s digital presence, where I curate and structure complex information regarding global migration and relocation logistics.
Throughout my professional career, I have remained an active scholar, sustaining an engagement with historical literature and independent research. I also set up an American-German reading club focusing on high-quality historical non-fiction.
